New Book on Jewish Ethics and Social Justice

Monday, December 19 2011

Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz, founder and President of Uri L'Tzedek, has compiled a collection of his essays on various aspects of Jewish ethics and social justice. A graduate of Yeshivat Chovevei Torah, Rabbi Yanklowitz has devoted considerable time and effort to studying and promoting an activist Orthodox Jewish agenda. Uri L'Tzedek has been at the forefront of a new generation of Orthodox idealism and social activism.

His new book is entitled "Jewish Ethics and Social Justice." It is scheduled for publication in March 2012, but can be pre-ordered at amazon.com.

This book highlights the relevance of Jewish religious tradition to the very real problems that confront our society today. Rabbi Yanklowitz brings his Torah knowledge and inspiration to such issues as health care, economics, worker's rights, child labor, prison reform, discrimination...and more.

Rabbi Yanklowitz, who serves as Director of Jewish Life and as the Senior Jewish Educator at the UCLA Hillel, is a prolific author and lecturer. Several of his articles have appeared in Conversations, the journal of the Institute for Jewish Ideas and Ideals.

This volume is significant not only for its contents, but as a symbol of a new generation of Orthodox Jews who strive to put their Jewish knowledge and ideals into action on behalf of society. The values and insights of the Jewish religious tradition can and should impact on society as a whole. Orthodoxy needs to make its voice heard on the large issues which confront our world.

In this book, Rabbi Yanklowitz raises his voice on these large issues. In so doing, he points the way for a better, more engaged and more relevant Orthodox Judaism...and for a better world.
