Breakfast Program with Israeli civil rights attorney, Yifat Bitton

Posted January 21, 2010 - 3:16pm
The Institute for Jewish Ideas and Ideals invites members to a breakfast program on Monday morning February 1, at Congregation Shearith Israel, 2 West 70th Street, NYC. Services begin at 7:15 am, followed by breakfast (at about 8:00 am). The program will conclude by 9:15 am.

GUEST SPEAKER:  Our guest speaker is Yifat Bitton, an Israeli attorney and activist who is involved in an Israeli civil rights group known as Tmura. Tmura defends the rights of those who suffer discrimination in Israeli schools and other institutions. Tmura won an important and highly publicized legal victory against a Beit Yaacov school in Immanuel, a school that blatantly discriminated against students of Sephardic/Middle Eastern backgrounds. Yifat Bitton wrote an article about Tmura which appeared in the first issue of Conversations, the journal of our Institute. The article is also included in the Articles section of our website: www.jewishideas.org

There is no charge for the breakfast program, but advance reservations are required. Please make your reservation(s) by emailing to: mdangel@jewishideas.org; or by calling the Institute office at 212 362 4764. Please reserve no later than January 28. Thank you.
